As a curious and creative designer, I…
have an affinity for digging deep into conversations, whether during a research interview or over coffee with a friend.
am always eager to dive into complex problems and collaboratively solve them with engineers, product managers, and other team members.
enjoy creating experiences in their abstract form and then driving that vision into solid design deliverables.
am passionate about being a role model for women and designers looking to grow in their careers.
How did you get into User Experience (UX) Design?
I spent the first 10 years of my professional life as a business owner and gained design experience through designing brands, websites, and marketing materials. Once I learned about the UX field, I knew I had to make the jump and did an extensive boot camp to gain a deeper understanding of the design process & design research. It’s almost six years later, and I have been working as a UX Designer and I am wrapping up my Master’s in User-Centered Design at Brandeis University.
What did you do before your UX career?
I ran Empowered Portraiture, a boutique photography and digital design business. Over 10 years, I developed expertise in visual storytelling, branding, and customer experience, consulting on web and marketing design. This foundation in creating customer-centric solutions seamlessly paved my way into the field of UX Design.
What type of UX experience do you have?
Most recently, I have worked at a fast-paced startup, on a digital tipping application. Previously, I worked on B2B SAAS products that are very data-heavy with complex workflows. I also have experience working on design systems, multi-platform mobile apps, and performing user research + interviews. I have worked on a team of designers and as a solo designer. I have worked in waterfall and agile environments, but I prefer agile.
Besides UX, what else do you like to do?
Oh, this list could go on for a while… I’ll shorten it to a few of my favorites.
I love to…
take long walks with my dog, Rey.
take photos (I used to be a die-hard medium format film camera person, but the Sony mirrorless cameras are what you will usually find in my hand these days.)
read fantasy novels and play cozy video games.
How do you pronounce your name?
Whitley Pollet throws a lot of people off. It is pronounced Wit-Lee Paul-Lit.
